Chelsea Chelsea In Talks To Hire Maresca As New Manager

According to British media sources, Chelsea are in talks to hire Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca as their new head coach.

The Italian, who was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at English champions Manchester City until last year, has supervised Leicester’s quick return to the Premier League following their relegation a year ago.

His style of play is also reported to have impressed Chelsea officials, with Sky Sports claiming on Monday that the Blues had requested Leicester for permission to talk directly with Maresca, who was the London club’s first pick.

Chelsea are searching for a new manager after breaking ways with Mauricio Pochettino.

He was only in charge at Stamford Bridge for one season, while Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Kieran McKenna, who led Ipswich to top-flight promotion behind Leicester, have also been linked with the job.

Pochettino resigned after a late push saw Chelsea finish sixth in the Premier League, qualifying for the Europa Conference League but missing out on Champions League qualification and the trophy.

Chelsea lost the League Cup final 1-0 to Liverpool after extra time, and they pushed Manchester City all the way before losing the FA Cup semifinals by the same score.

However, there were signs that former Tottenham manager Pochettino’s strategy was coming together during a run of five straight wins at the close of the season, ensuring Chelsea’s participation in European competition the following season.
