Nigeria Oshoala Bicycle Kick Wins UEFA Women’s Champions League Best Goal

Asisat Oshoala has won the best goal in the UEFA Women’s Champions League 2023-24 season.

Oshoala scored a magnificent bicycle kick in Barcelona’s 5-0 victory over Benfica in their first group game, securing the Catalans’ second Champions League title in a row.

With the Blaugrana already up 4-0, Jonatan Giráldez threw on the reigning Women’s African Footballer of the Year, who lost no time in making her impact in the game, scoring the game’s last goal in style – her only goal of the competition.

She then joined Bay FC, an American club, in the middle of the season.

UEFA announced on Monday that Oshoala’s goal was the finest of the ones chosen.

The top 10 goals of the 2023/24 UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign have been selected by UEFA’s Technical Observer panel, with Nigerian forward Asisat Oshoala taking the prize for Goal of the Season thanks to her stunning bicycle kick for Barcelona against Benfica on Matchday 1,” UEFA wrote on their website.

“Also for Barça, midfielder Aitana Bonmatí took second spot for her bending effort in the quarter-finals second-leg win against Brann, while Lyon’s Delphine Cascarino came third for her long-range strike in the quarter-finals second-leg victory over Benfica.”

Oshoala created history with Barcelona Femení, being the first African to win three UEFA Women’s Champions League titles.

Despite her midseason switch to Bay FC in the United States, the 29-year-old was awarded a winner’s medal.

Prior to her departure, the Super Falcons striker helped Barcelona in the Champions League by appearing in two group-stage matches and scoring one.
