FIFA World Cup 2026 WC : Algeria excludes Riyad Mahrez for Guinea, Uganda qualifiers

Riyad Mahrez has not been included in Algeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers squad for Guinea and Uganda games in June.

For the second time in a row since the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the Al-Ahli right-winger does not make his country’s squad for international break despite being tremendous in Saudi Arabia where he ended the season with most assists (14) in the League.

Other players like Islam Slimani and Youcef Belaïli who where key for Djamel Belmadi’s success have been left out by his remplacement Vladimir Petkovic.

The Serbian gaffer bets on a younger generation but still makes controversial choices like the omission of Eintracht Francfort midfielder Farès Chaibi.

Algeria will host Guinea on June 6 at home being top of Group G with 6 points after two games before travelling to Kampala to take on the Uganda Cranes four days later (June 10).
