Cristiano Ronaldo collapsed in tears after his Al-Nassr side were beaten by Al-Hilal in the final of the King Cup of Champions.
Ronaldo has endured a disappointing second season at the Saudi Pro League club, as they finished second in the league. They did reach the final of the Saudi Cup, but a chaotic match left Ronaldo overwhelmed with emotion.
Al-Nassr actually had to fight back from going a goal down early on to equalise with two minutes to go. There were also three red cards during the match, which went to penalties after neither side could find a way through in extra-time.
Ronaldo stepped up for his side’s second penalty and scored, but former Manchester United star Alex Telles had missed their first. All but two takers for Hilal converted, with Telles’ miss ensuring Nassr lost.
As Hilal raced away to celebrate, Ronaldo collapsed on his back on the halfway line and began crying. He put his hands over his eyes and had to be comforted by one of Nassr’s subs and a member of the coaching staff.
He was eventually convinced to sit up, but continued to weap while Hilal celebrated with their fans. It looked to be a difficult night for Ronaldo and Nassri right from the off as Hilal opened the scoring just seven minutes in.
Former Fulham star Aleksandar Mitrovic peeled off at the back post to head the opener past David Ospina. Hilal keeper Bono was then called upon to deny Ronaldo, with Nassr’s furstrations threatening to bubble over.
