FIFA World Cup Mahmoud Trezeguet with a brace as Egypt sink Burkina Faso

Egypt defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, thanks to a quickfire brace from Mahmoud Trezeguet.

The Pharaohs resumed their World Cup qualification campaign on Thursday evening as they hosted Burkina Faso in the third round of Group A at the Cairo International Stadium.

Having the home advantage, Egypt needed only three minutes to find the breakthrough with Trezeguet heading home Salah’s pinpoint cross at the far post.Four minutes later, Trezeguet was on target once again but this time finding the back of the net with his left foot to double his side’s lead and mark a perfect start to the game.

After spurning a number of good chances to extend their advantage, Egypt settled for a two-goal cushion going into the break before the momentum shifted in the second half.

Burkina Faso managed to pull one back just before the hour mark with Lassina Traore capitalising on a goalkeeping error from Mohamed El-Shenawy to send warning signs to the home fans.
