Friendly Frustrated France sign off with Canada draw ahead of Euro 2024

France were left frustrated in their final Euro 2024 warm-up match as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Canada in Bordeaux.

Didier Deschamps rotated his squad leaving the likes of Kylian Mbappe on the bench but his side could not find a breakthrough against a stubborn Canada side.

Les Bleus begin their European Championship campaign against Austria on June 17.vIn general play, the visitors gave as good as they got in the first half, confident on the ball and not unmenacing in attack.

But it was France who came closest to opening the scoring, but goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau foiled them with three fine saves.

The match remained an enjoyable contest into the second half, Liam Millar powering a curler against the bar and Olivier Giroud, on his final appearance for France on home soil, narrowly missing with a variety of lunges.

Neither side, though, could find a route to goal, which will not worry Canada – they looked a decent, improving side – and will not worry France too much, especially as Kylian Mbappe only played the final 20 minutes. But they remained unconvincing; Didier Deschamps has work to do.
