AFCON AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Super Eagles To Face Rohr’s Cheetahs In Group D

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been drawn in Group B against Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic, Libya, and Rwanda for the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers.

Their FIFA World Cup qualifying reverse fixture is not until the final day of the qualification series (6th – 14th October 2025), but both teams have much earlier battles to fight later this year as they aim to be among the 24 countries that will compete in the 35th Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco from December 21st to January 18th, 2026.

At Thursday afternoon’s draw ceremony inside the SuperSport studio in Johannesburg, South Africa, the Super Eagles also drew the Amavubi of Rwanda.

Another team in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying group, with whom they will play in March 2025, and the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.

Recall that the Super Eagles FIFA 2026 World Cup suffered a major setback after they were defeated 2-1 by Benin Republic in Matchday 4 of the qualifiers.

The Super Eagles whose chance of qualify to the World Cup is still dangling will now have three more games to play against Gernot Rohr’s Cheetahs; two of the games will be in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers and their last home game against the Cheetahs in Nigeria for survival to reach the 2026 World Cup.

The six-match qualifying series has been stretched throughout the FIFA windows of September, October, and November, with two matches in each seven-day session.
