Dstv Premiership DONE DEAL: Steve Komphela returns to Sundowns after Mokwena’s surprise exit

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the return of senior coach Steve Komphela in the wake of coach Rhulani Mokwena’s surprise departure.

Just days after Sundowns announced that they have amicably parted ways with Mokwena, who was under contract until June 2027, the club have now roped Komphela back into the technical team.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows mentor, who joined Golden Arrows as head coach as recently as March after parting ways with the Dube Birds in February, will return in the same capacity at Chloorkop.

A statement on the club’s official website said: “Mamelodi Sundowns have welcomed Steve Komphela who will serve as Senior Coach and will assist Manqoba Mngqithi and the Technical Team.”

On returning to Sundowns Komphela said, “I am very excited to be back at Mamelodi Sundowns where I was always inspired and treated with respect and love. I am committed to contributing to the Club achieving its goals in South Africa and on the African Continent.”

Mamelodi Sundowns is currently training in South Africa for the upcoming season and will be leaving in a few days to Austria as part of its pre-season preparations.
