Transfers DONE DEAL: Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo extends Bournemouth stay

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has extended his stay at Premier League outfit Bournemouth.

“We are delighted to confirm Antoine Semenyo has signed a new five-year contract with AFC Bournemouth,” confirmed a statement on the club’s official website. “The agreement is set to keep the Ghana international at Vitality Stadium until at least the summer of 2029.”

Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake said: “It has been clear for all to see the rate of Antoine’s development since joining 18 months ago. He has gone from strength to strength, and enjoyed an incredible first full season with us.

“Agreeing on a new long-term contract was important for us to recognise his contribution as a key member of our squad, and we’re excited to see this continue for years to come.”

Semenyo’s fresh deal comes after a terrific campaign for Andoni Iraola’s side, during which he helped the club total their record-breaking Premier League points tally of 48.

The 24-year-old played 33 times in the top flight last season, scoring eight goals and providing two assists. The forward netted in games against Liverpool, Burnley, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as a memorable brace coming against Luton Town.

A 4-3 victory over the Hatters was sealed by Semenyo’s blistering double, with the Cherries becoming only the fifth team in Premier League history to win after overturning a 3-0 deficit.

That performance ensured Bournemouth won the Premier League’s Most Improbable Comeback award for 2023/24. Semenyo’s impressive form also saw him win the club’s Michael Matthews Jewellers Player of the Month award for November.

He has played 47 times for the Cherries in all competitions, having signed from Bristol City in January 2023.
