In the training photographs published, Finidi was seen giving directions to the players while also conversing with his technical staff, which included coach Evans Ogenyi, who commanded the squad till the end of last season.

However, he does not yet have the full complement of the roster, as the club is still negotiating with roughly 13 out-of-contract players while simultaneously attempting to sign new ones.

Rivers United has been linked with Bendel Insurance custodian Amas Obasogie, who has expressed his commitment to the Benin squad, as well as his teammate Divine Nwachukwu.

Others include Doma United goalkeeper Kingdom Osayi and Sporting Lagos forward Jonathan Alukwu.

Some of Rivers’ out-of-contract players include keeper Abiodun Akande, captain Nyima Nwagua, and Kazie Enyinnaya.

Finidi, who signed a two-year contract with the club, has stated that his immediate goal is to return the team to the continent next season.

Last season, Rivers United competed in the CAF Confederation Cup but failed to advance past the quarter-finals.

They also ended seventh in the NPFL, scoring 53 points.
