Algerian female gymnast Kaylia Nemour has made history on Sunday afternoon in the Paris 2024 games as she claimed the gold medal at just 17.

This Sunday is particularly blessed for Africa in the Olympic Games.

After Rena Wakama‘s D’Tigress reached the quarter-finals in basketball and Favour Ofili’s qualification to Women’s 200m semifinals, here is another stellar performance of an African athlete.

Algerian gymnast Kaylia Nemour won the gold medal in his discipline becoming the first Algerian female gymnast to do so and opening the scoreboard for Algeria in these Olympics.

Moreover, it is Africa’s first-ever gymnastics medal at the Olympics.

“I can’t realize what has just happened. This is the dream of my life. I’m really happy,” Kaylia Nemour told Eurosport.

“It’s crazy and I’m really honoured to win this gold medal after all I’ve gone through. This is a relief and I’m really proud to win this medal.”
