Uncategorised Paris 2024: Ofili Reach 200m Finals, Break 28 Years Jinx

Favour Ofili became the first Nigeriam woman to qualify for the final of the 200m at the Olympics in 28 years.

The Nigeria sprinter on Monday qualified to the final of the women’s 200 metres race at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic games.

Ofili ran a season best of 22.05 seconds to finish second behind race winner Julian Alfred of St. Lucia who clocked 21.98 seconds.

Ofili who was omitted from the 100 metres following a mistake from the Athletic Federation of Nigeria after an official failed to enter her name in the event has now channeled her strength to the 200 metres race.

The Nigerian won in 22.24 seconds against Dina Asher-Smith, one of the favourites on the circuit in the heat on Sunday to reach the semi final.

The last time a Nigerian made the final of women’s 200m was Atlanta 1996 when Mary Onyali won a Bronze medal.
