Nigeria’s Blessing Oborududu was defeated 3-1 in the women’s wrestling 68kg semifinals by Kyrgyzstan’s Meerim Zhumanazarova at the Paris 2024 Olympic games.

Oborududu struggled to build momentum after bumping heads with her opponent, which hampered her performance in the second half of the match.

The 2020 Olympics silver medallist led 1-0 in the first period but was unable to grab a point in the second period after trailing 1-3.

The 35-year-old initially beat Linda Morais of Canada before defeating Koumba Larroque of France to go to the semi-finals.

However, her shocking defeat in the semis means she will not be able to improve on her silver medal from 2020, and she will have to compete for a bronze medal for Nigeria.
