Samuel Ogazi of Nigeria has been the first Nigerian athlete to qualify for the Olympic 400m final in 36 years, dating back to the great Innocent Egbunike.
Ogazi raced the race of his life, finishing third in heat 3 of the 400m semis with a new Personal Best of 44.41s and a spot in the final.

The 18-year-old earned one of the two non-automatic qualifying spots and went to the Men’s 400m final.
