Nigeria Odebode Urges Para Athletes To Be Good Ambassador

Mr Sunday Odebode, President of the Paralympics Committee of Nigeria (PCN), has challenged the para athletes to be good ambassadors for the country as they travel for a training tour of Germany on Monday.

The athletes, their training partners, and coaches flew in batches on Ethiopian Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Royal Air Maroc.

Team Nigeria athletes will compete in para athletics, para badminton, para table tennis, and para powerlifting.

Speaking at Murtala Muhammed International Airport shortly before the athletes boarded, Odebode, who is also chairman of para table tennis, advised the athletes to avoid any vices that could tarnish the country’s image, and to always represent the country well at all times.

According to him, “we have done all that are expected of us to do from federation level to the PCN and my message to you as you are embarking on this trip is to be good ambassadors of our great nation by making the country proud during on and off event venues.

Odebode continued,”inasmuch as i want to win medals,it should be noble and i will not want to promise the number of medals we are bringing home but i strongly believe we shall be on the podium”,he said.

Also, while speaking with Tribunesports, Team Nigeria assistant captain Femi Alabi table tennis (Class 10) revealed that they (athletes) were in a good frame of mind after being in camp for nearly three months, adding that the training tour will be beneficial to the team with the utmost hope of performing well.

Alabi said, “we shall not disgrace the nation but i will not say categorically the number of medals we are bringing home but i can assure Nigerians that we shall bring medal home”.

Nigeria earned ten medals at the last Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, in 2020.
