Uganda’s SC Villa who returned to the CAF Champions League after 20 years got a rude welcome losing 2-1 to visiting Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Simon Peter Oketch and Adid Gedey scored for the visitors in each half, while Elvis Ngonde pulled back one goal for SC Villa. Substitute Charles Lwanga was sent off for SC Villa after 90 minutes after a nasty challenge on a Commercial Bank of Ethiopia player.
In the other matches played Sudan’s Al Merriekh settled for a goalless draw away to Libya’s Al Nasr. On Friday Somalia’s Dekedaha SC defeated Djibouti Premier League champions Arta Solar 2-0 in a match played at the Azam Complex in Tanzania.
Action will continue on Sunday with teams from the CECAFA Zone tussling it out as El Merriekh Bentiu host Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC at the Juba National Stadium in South Sudan, while JKU SC (Zanzibar) play Pyramids away in Cairo, Egypt.
Tanzania’s Azam FC who return to the CAF Champions League will host Rwanda giants APR FC at the Azam Complex.
