Tanzanian giants Simba Queens are the second team to book a place in the semi-final stage at the on-going CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers 2024.
Coach Juma Ramadhani Mgunda’s team defeated Kawempe Muslim Ladies from Uganda 3-0 in their second Group B match played today at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
After a goalless first half where Kawempe Muslim Ladies dominant with Hadijah Nandago hitting the post twice, Simba Queens returned after the interval a charged and different side.
Kenyan international Vivian Aquino Corazone Odhiambo put the Queens ahead when she headed home after 64 minutes a well taken Precious Christopher’s corner kick. Five minutes later the Nigerian Christopher again delivered a corner kick that Jentrix Shikangwa Milimu raised up and nodded in past Kawempe Muslim Ladies’ goalkeeper Juliet Adeke.
As the Ugandan champions tried to settle down another Kenyan International Elizabeth Mutukiza Wambui netted the third goal after 75 minutes with a beautiful curving shot past the Kawempe Muslim Ladies’ goalkeeper.
Simba Queens who opened the tournament with a 5-0 win against FAD Djibouti have not scored eight goals and conceded none.In the second Group B match played at the same Stadium, PVP Buyenzi (Burundi) and Djibouti’s FAD settled for a goalless draw.
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia were the first team to qualify for the knockout stage o Tuesday when they registered their second win in the tournament.
