Kenya Police Bullets qualified to the semi-finals of the Caf Women’s Champions CECAFA Region qualifier despite falling 2-1 to Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in the last group stage match at the Addis Ababa Stadium on Thursday.
Senaf Wakuma broke the deadlock two minutes into the hotly contested encounter to fire CBE ahead, only for Rebecca Akinyi to restore parity in the 32nd minute.
Wakuma, the toast of the day, returned to haunt the gallant Kenyan side with another splendid goal in the 58th minute. The Kenyan champions wrapped up second in Group B after amassing four points, the same as third-placed Yei Joint Stars of South Sudan but enjoyed a healthier goal difference.
Their campaign took off on a shaky note with a scoreless draw against Yei, before a crucial 1-0 win over Rayon. CBE won all their group matches to punch a ticket to the semi-finals, leaving Police and Yei to wrestle for the other semi-final spot.
Yei fended off a vicious challenge to defeat Rayon Sport of Rwanda 2-1 in their opening group campaign, only to crash a 4-0 loss to CBE in their final group encounter.
