The opening weekend of the FKF Premier League kicked off with some thrilling encounters. Mara Sugar made a memorable debut in the top flight with a 3-0 home victory over Kakamega Homeboyz.
Mathias Isogoli gave the newcomers a 38th minute lead going into the halftime break. Samuel Otieno then sealed the win with a brace, netting goals in the 54th and 73rd minutes.
Meanwhile, AFC Leopards also enjoyed a successful start, securing a 4-0 victory against FKF PL returnees Mathare United. The match began with a setback for Mathare United, as an own goal in the 3rd minute gave Leopards an early lead.
Bonface Kweyu doubled the advantage in the 15th minute, ensuring a 2-0 lead at the break. The second half saw further goals from Victor Omune in the 72nd minute and Sydney Lokale in the 79th minute, wrapping up a comprehensive win for Leopards.
At Ulinzi Sports Complex, Murang’a Seal clinched a 1-0 victory against hosts Ulinzi Stars, thanks to a crucial strike from Joseph Irungu in the 67th minute. Elsewhere, Tusker FC began their 2024/25 campaign on a high note, edging out Sofapaka with a narrow 1-0 win at Machakos Stadium, courtesy of a goal from Chris Erambo.
In other matches, KCB and Kariobangi Sharks played out a goalless draw, while the matches between Bidco United and Shabana, as well as Posta Rangers and Bandari FC, both ended in 1-1 stalemates. The FKF Premier League will return on August 31, 2024.
