Nigeria NFF Appoints Labbadia As New Super Eagles Head Coach

Former Germany striker Bruno Labbadia has been named the new coach of the Super Eagles, effective immediately, according to a statement released by the Nigeria Football Federation.

Labbadia’s appointment was announced by the NFF’s X handle, which tweeted under the hashtag #thenff on Tuesday morning,

The statement read, “The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that it has reached an agreement with German tactician, Bruno Labbadia, to become the Head Coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, Super Eagles.”

The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development sub-committee to appoint Mr Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles,” according to the federation’s General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.

Following the resignation of previous coach Finidi George, Labbadia takes over as the 37th head coach of the Super Eagles.

Born on February 8, 1966, in Darmstadt, Germany, Labbadia earned two caps for Die Mannschaft during his playing career, which saw him play for clubs like his hometown Darmstadt 98, Hamburger SV, FC Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich, FC Cologne, Werder Bremen, Armenia Bielefeld, and Karlsruher SC.

In 1994, Labbadia was part of Bayern Munich team that won the German Bundesliga.

In addition to holding a UEFA Pro License, he has coached notable teams like Hertha Berlin and VfB Stuttgart this decade. In the past, he has also coached teams like VfL Wolfsburg, Hamburger SV, and Bayer Leverkusen.
