Transfers Haller Join Leganes On Season- Long Loan

Ivorian international Sébastien Haller, 30, will spend a season on loan at CD Leganés, after the two teams came to an agreement on Friday.

Arriving to Butarque for his debut LALIGA match, the striker, who was born in France, has a wealth of experience playing elite football around Europe.

Haller, who made his first-team debut in the 2012–13 season, rose through the ranks of Auxerre, a French club.

He was loaned to the Dutch team Utrecht in the winter transfer window of 2014–15.

There, he excelled as a goal scorer and was signed as a full-time player the following season. In 2017 he switched to the Bundesliga by signing for Eintracht Frankfurt, winning the Cup in his first season in Germany.

The next season, he made his UEFA Europa League debut with Eintracht, where he went all the way to the tournament’s semifinals and scored twenty goals in the Bundesliga and the European competition. a campaign that piqued the curiosity of several European powerhouses, including West Ham United, who ultimately signed him.

After spending a season and a half with the Hammers, he would return to the Netherlands in January 2021 and sign with Ajax Amsterdam.

His goal-scoring explosion peaked in 2021–2022, when he scored 34 goals in 43 official appearances, including eleven in the historic Champions League against Sporting de Portugal, where he won both the league and the Eredivisie top scorer award.

In the summer of 2022, he was signed by Borussia Dortmund, being diagnosed with testicular cancer shortly after being presented to the German club, from which he happily recovered, returning to the pitch in January 2023, scoring nine goals in that second half.

This year he was nominated for the Laureus Award for Best International Comeback of the Year.

Haller was capped by every youth team in France, but he finally chose to play for the Ivory Coast senior squad.

Both in 2022 and 2024, he participated in the African Cup of Nations, when the Ivorians defeated Nigeria (2-1) thanks to a goal in the 81st minute from the new player from the pepinero.
