Brentford defeated promoted Southampton 3-1 at home on Saturday in the Premier League, with goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa propelling the host team to the bottom of the standings.

Shortly before the break, Mbeumo gave the home team the lead with a straightforward low finish after Kevin Schade’s effort had struck the crossbar.

He increased the lead in the 65th minute with a first-time effort into the bottom corner of the net, and Wissa headed in the equaliser four minutes later.

Southampton responded with a goal through Yukinari Sugawara in stoppage time.

Southampton held the top spot in the rankings with no points, while Brentford rose to fifth place with six.
