Rebecca Cheptegui, an Olympian marathon runner from Uganda who competed in the Paris Olympics last month, reportedly doused herself with fuel by her lover, according to local media on Monday.

This resulted in burns covering more than 75% of her body.

Following the incident on Sunday afternoon, Cheptegui is reportedly in critical condition at a hospital in Eldoret, Kenya, according to reports from both Kenyan and Ugandan newspapers.

Cheptegui’s boyfriend, Daniel Ndiema Marangach, was also burned in the incident, which was reported to be a domestic fight, according to Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Jeremiah Ole Kosiom, who spoke to The Star newspaper.

The 33-year-old Cheptegui, who placed 44th in Paris, remains at her Kenyan home when she trains there. As they indicated, the cops were looking into it.
