Comoros and Gambia battled out to a 1-1 draw in the their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying fixture on Wednesday.

Two spectacular free-kick goals scored by M’Changama for the hosts and Musa Barrow for the visitors settled the Group A opener at the Ben M’Hamed El Abdi Stadium in El Jadida.

The sides have been drawn alongside Tunisia and Madagascar in Group A. Ranked 119th in the world, Comoros begin their quest to reach their second AFCON finals.

The island nation made their competitive debut in the 2021 edition, where they progressed from a group containing Morocco and Ghana, before falling to hosts Cameroon in the last-16.

In Tripoli, Libya and Rwanda also shared the spoils, drawing 1-1 in their Group D opener. Sobhi Al-Dawi put Libya ahead in the 16th minute with a brilliant solo effort, but Rwanda’s Innocent Ntshwe equalised early in the second half.

Despite both teams pushing for a winner, the match ended with each side taking a point.
