Uncategorised AFCON 2025Q: Aboubacar Rescues Cameroon From Namibia Blushes

Despite being well below par against Namibia, Cameroon managed to secure a slender 1-0 victory at the Roumde Adjia Stadium on Saturday.

The Indomitable Lions had a difficult first forty-five minutes of play, but they steadied in the second half and eventually found their footing on the 65th minute to win all three points in their inaugural 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying encounter.

After winning 4-1 against Cape Verde and drawing 1-1 with Angola in June’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Marc Brys had led his team to a perfect start to his career. In the first half, the squad controlled possession but did not create many opportunities.

Peter Shalulile’s effort from range in the fourth minute gave the visitors a threat, and on the other end, Edward Maova did well to block Carlos Baleba’s hard-hit effort from six minutes away.

On the twenty-five-minute mark, Shalulile had another opportunity to score, but Andre Onana was up to the challenge to keep the score blank at halftime.

The giants of Central Africa upped their game in the second half, and on minute 58, Jackson Tchatchoua came dangerously close with a shot that went just wide of the post after he had done well to regain possession in the last third of the game.

On the hour mark, Vincent Aboubakar scored the first goal after Namibian custodian Maova failed to hold onto an effort by a Brentford winger.

Five minutes later, Bryan Mbeumo again tested Maova at his near post. After the hosts countered quickly in the last minutes, Aboubakar ought to have scored once more.

But after going one-on-one with the keeper, he missed the mark.

With the ball inside the box, Deon Hotto had a great chance to equalise in stoppage time, but his effort went wide, much to Onana and company’s relief.
