Nigeria’s Falconets defeated Venezuela 4-0 in their last Group D match on Saturday, securing their spot in the round of 16 of the 2024 FIFA U-20 women’s World Cup.
The team’s advancement into the following round was guaranteed with goals from Amina Bello, Joy Igbokwe, Flourish Sebastine, and Chiamaka Ukwuchukwu.
The Falconets knew going into the match that they would advance to the first round of the knockout stages if they won handily.

The Falconets lost 3-1 to Germany after winning 1-0 over South Korea to start the season.
South Korea won their first tournament match, defeating Germany 1-0 in the other match in the group.
With six points from three games, Germany emerged victorious in the group, while the Falconets took second place with six points as well.
Venezuela finished last with just one point, while South Korea came in third with four.
The following teams have advanced to the round of 16: France, Brazil, Mexico, and the hosts, Colombia.
In the twelfth minute, Flourish Sebastine’s ball to Okwuchukwu gave him the first real chance of the match, but he blasted close range and straight into the arms of the Venezuelan goalie.
After Okwuchukwu set Bello up, the Falconets took the lead in the 16th minute.
When Okwuchukwu leaped highest to head home a cross in the 28th minute, the score was increased to 2-0.
In the 39th minute, Venezuela nearly equalised, but Faith Omilana made a great stop to keep away the South Americans.
In the fifth minute of extra time in the first half, Sebastine scored her second goal of the competition with a simple tap-in to put the Falconets ahead 3-0.
In the ninetieth minute, Igbokwe added the fourth goal to complete the thrashing.
