Togo needed a late goal courtesy of L. Kodjo Fo Doh to snatch a 2-2 draw against Equatorial Guinea in their matchday two fixture of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers at the Nuevo Estadio de Malabo on Monday.
During the pulsating Group E fixture, it was the home team, who scored first in the 17th minute through Luis Nlavo before Togo levelled matters through Roger Aholou in the 45th minute.
Jannick Buyla put Equatorial Guinea 2-1 up in the 75th minute. Equatorial Guinea went into the game looking to get on the scoreboard with attacks on the flanks, but they did not have good finishing.
In the sixth minute, Etienne Amenyido attempted a shot for Togo, but the ball missed the target.
Aholou then almost gave Togo the lead when he found space inside the dangerzone but he unleashed a weak effort that could not trouble Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper.
Both sides went into their sixth head-to-head meeting looking to pick up their first win of the qualifiers.
Despite holding on for over an hour, Equatorial Guinea succumbed to pressure, conceding two goals in the last 20 minutes of the game to lose 2-0 against Algeria in round one of the AFCON qualifiers last Thursday.
Meanwhile, Togo kicked off their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Liberia. Despite enjoying the lead in most part of the game, Liberia grabbed a late goal to deny them maximum points.
