Nigeria’s Falconets, the continent’s best chance to finish on the podium at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals, have returned to Bogota, the capital of Colombia, in advance of their Round of 16 match against Japan on Friday morning.
One of the greatest teams in women’s football history, Japan, defeated Austria, New Zealand, and Ghana, one of the leading nations in Africa, to win Group E.
After tight victories over New Zealand and Japan and Austria, Ghana was eliminated from the competition.

The Falconets advanced to the Round of 16 following their thrilling 4-0 victory against Venezuela in Cali, a 1-0 victory over Korea Republic, and a 1-3 loss to Germany.
“The girls have worked very hard to get to this stage, and we are proud of their efforts.
“We will be taking the knockout stages one match at a time.
“I must tell you that we are excited at the prospects of facing Japan and what that brings forth,” Coach Chris Musa Danjuma said on his team’s return to the capital on Wednesday night.
Starting on Friday, September 13 at 2 a.m. Nigeria time (8 p.m., Thursday in Colombia), the encounter between Nigeria and Japan will take place at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota, the same venue where the Falconets played their first two group-stage matches against Korea Republic and Germany.q
