AFCON Mozambique Stamps Authority at Home with 2-1 Victory Over Guinea-Bissau:

Mozambique reaffirmed their dominance over Guinea-Bissau with a hard-fought 2-1 victory. The match, played at home, highlighted Mozambique’s stronghold over their West African counterparts, further extending their upper hand in this growing rivalry.

The game began with both sides eager to make their mark. Mozambique, buoyed by the home support, started the brighter of the two, pressing high and dictating the tempo. Their efforts were rewarded early in the first half when striker Guima scored in the 5th minute.

Guinea-Bissau, however, were not to be underestimated. They responded quickly, taking advantage of Mozambique’s brief lapse in concentration. In the 24th minute, forward Mama Balde put the ball into the back of the net to level the score at 1-1, sending the game into halftime evenly poised.

The second half saw both teams ramp up the intensity, but it was Mozambique who showed greater composure. Their attacking movements became more fluid, with Mozambique causing problems for the Guinea-Bissau defense. It was as a result of the pressure that Guinea-Bisau succumbed in the 72nd minute when Centre back Elias Macamo scored, restoring Mozambique’s lead.

Despite Guinea-Bissau’s late efforts to equalize, Mozambique’s defense held firm, with captain Elias foiling all the efforts from the guest. The hosts controlled the final minutes of the match, ensuring their slim lead remained intact as the referee blew the final whistle.

With this 2-1 win, Mozambique not only secured an important victory but also reasserted their superiority over Guinea-Bissau, continuing their unbeaten streak in head-to-head encounters. The victory serves as a significant boost for Mozambique’s campaign, solidifying their status as a team to watch in the region.
