FIFA U17 WORLD CUP Kenya’s Junior Starlets to Head to Spain for Pre-World Cup Camp

The Kenya U17 Women’s camp in Spain, originally scheduled for September 10, 2024, has been postponed and will now commence on September 19, 2024.

This adjustment will allow the team additional time to continue fine-tuning their local preparations. Junior Starlets are now in their seventh day of training as they prepare for their debut at the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, set to take place in the Dominican Republic.

Team captain, Elizabeth Ochaka, spoke on the significance of this World Cup qualification, both for the players and for Kenyan football.

“Qualifying for the World Cup is a huge achievement, especially being the first Kenyan team to do it in the world of football. We don’t take this chance for granted. Our goal is to go there and compete, not just participate,” said Ochaka.

She further emphasised how competing on the world stage could open doors for the players “Playing at the World Cup will bring us many opportunities, like getting scouted to play for international teams, which has always been a dream for many of us.”

The 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup will run from October 16 to November 3, 2024. The Junior Starlets will begin their group stage matches on October 18 against England, followed by a clash with Korea DPR on October 20. They will conclude their group campaign against Mexico on October 24, 2024.
