The highly anticipated CAF AFCON U-20 CECAFA tournament draw has just concluded, and the stage is set for an exciting showdown of East and Central Africa’s finest young football talents. The competition, which serves as a qualifying tournament for the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, promises intense action and thrilling matchups.
The Groups:
In Group A, five teams will battle it out for a place in the knockout stages:
1. Tanzania
2. Sudan
3. Rwanda
4. Djibouti
5. Kenya
This group offers a wide range of playing styles and approaches, from Tanzania’s dynamic attacks to Kenya’s structured defense. Sudan and Rwanda will also pose tough challenges with their disciplined squads, while Djibouti comes in as the underdog, looking to surprise the bigger teams.
In Group B, four teams will fight for supremacy:
1. Uganda
2. South Sudan
3. Burundi
4. Ethiopia
This group is considered to be the tournament’s most competitive. Uganda, the defending champions, are touted as the favorites to win the competition once again. With their well-drilled squad and history of success in youth tournaments, they are the team to beat. However, South Sudan, Burundi, and Ethiopia will look to upset Uganda’s ambitions. South Sudan has made strides in recent years and will be keen to make a mark, while Burundi and Ethiopia have young, promising talents ready to step up. Interestingly the two finalists from the last edition have been drawn in the same group.
