Ghana Kotoko changes venue After CAF Bans Baba Yara Stadium

In a bold move spurred by CAF’s ban on the iconic Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi Asante Kotoko has decided to shift their home games to Obuasi’s Len Clay Stadium. The decision came after CAF deemed the Baba Yara Stadium unfit to host international matches, citing concerns about the stadium’s pitch and infrastructure.

Faced with limited options, the management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko quickly resolved to relocate their upcoming matches to Obuasi. Information reaching en.africasports.com indicates that the club had written to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), requesting an inspection of the Len Clay Stadium to ensure its eligibility for hosting Premier League matches.

The move to Obuasi, though necessary, has sparked conversations among fans, many of whom have expressed mixed feelings about leaving the historical Baba Yara Stadium, known as the “Fortress of the Porcupines.” However, the team’s management remains optimistic that the Len Clay Stadium will serve as a suitable temporary venue as they work on improving the Baba Yara facility to meet CAF standards.

Supporters in Obuasi are excited to witness more top-tier football in their town, as the venue has previously hosted several Premier League games, primarily for Obuasi-based AshantiGold SC. With the approval from the GFA pending, Kotoko fans are hopeful that the switch to Obuasi will be smooth and allow the team to maintain their home advantage in the upcoming Premier League season.
