The 2024 National Youth Games athletics event enlivened the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, on Tuesday.
The 200m and 4×100 finals included young athletes from the host states, Delta, and Anambra States battling for supremacy.
In the boys’ and girls’ divisions of both competitions, both states split the honours.

Girls’ 200-meter champion Chigozie Nwankwo, who won her second championship at the games with a strong personal best time of 24.71 seconds, was dominated by Anambra.
Adaeze Ezeh, Nwankwo’s colleague, took home the silver medal in 25.02 seconds, while Ngozi Okereke (Delta) settled for bronze in 25.25 seconds. Nwankwo’s performance set up an Anambra 1-2 finish.
Later, in the National Youth Games, Nwankwo and Ezeh won their second consecutive gold medal in the girls’ 4×100-meter relay after successfully defending the championship with two teammates in 48.21 seconds.
In 48.82 seconds, Edo took second place, followed by Team Ogun in 48.90 seconds.
In the boys’ 200-meter and 4×100-meter finals, the hosts, Delta, answered back.
In the boys’ 200-meter final, Perfect Faye finished third in 23.07 seconds, while Bright Gift ran a flawless race to win in 22.35 seconds.
Muyideen Adeola of Ogun State came in second place with a timing of 22.83 seconds.
Later, in the boys’ 4×100-meter relay, Team Delta excelled with a powerful finish, passing other states to win the gold in 43.30 seconds.
In 43.92 seconds, Ondo State won the bronze medal, and Bayelsa finished in second place with a time of 43.71 seconds.
