FIFA released its updated national team rankings on Thursday, with several changes in the African top 20.
Tunisia made a significant jump, leapfrogging Nigeria to 5th in the African rankings after a flawless performance in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Globally, they gained five places, while Nigeria stagnated and fell to 6th in Africa.
The African top 4 remained unchanged with Morocco leading, followed by Senegal, Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire. Although Senegal dropped two places globally, they retained their leading position in Africa, but saw Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire closing in after their recent performances.
Ghana suffered the biggest drop, dropping five places globally and falling to 14th in Africa. The DRC gains two places at the global level, which allows it to rise to 10th place in Africa, while Uganda enters the African top 20, taking 19th place at the expense of Equatorial Guinea.
