Victor Boniface was in action as Bayer Leverkusen defeated Feyenoord 4-0 on Thursday to start their Champions League campaign on a positive note.
In his inaugural competition outing, the Nigerian international performed admirably. He took Patrik Schick’s place in the 63rd minute.
Tella, his countryman from Nigeria, spent the whole ninety minutes of the match on the sidelines.

The Rotterdammers had a bad start to the game, trailing 1-0 in the fifth minute. Florian Wirtz punished Ramiz Zerrouki for losing the ball in midfield by hitting it hard and low into the bottom corner.
The second goal for Leverkusen occurred in the thirtyth minute. After outpacing two Feyenoord players, Boniface executed a deft no-look pass to Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong, whose low cross reached Alejandro Grimaldo, the other wing back on the club, in the far post.
To make it 0-2, the Spanish fullback simply needed to tap it in.
After a half hour, the score was 0-3. Frimpong’s second assist came from a counterattack, where he found space to play an inch-perfect cross to Wirtz, who easily side-footed it home.
Grimaldo’s free kick found its way to the far post, where Edmond Tapsoba headed it back across and Timon Wellenreuther’s shoddy goalkeeping allowed it to go in.
