Premier League Stones Late Goal Stop 10-Man Arsenal From Win At Etihad Stadium

After a fierce battle with their fierce rivals for the title, Manchester City emerged victorious in a 2-2 draw against 10-man Arsenal on Sunday thanks to a goal from John Stones deep into injury time.

This puts them at the top of the Premier League table.

After five games, Pep Guardiola’s team has 13 points thanks to the draw in a match that felt more like a chess match than a slugfest.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who played the entire second half with 10 men after Leandro Trossard was sent off, are in fourth place with 11 points.

With their 28th effort of the second half in the 98th minute, substitute Stones gave Arsenal a close-range header that put them on the verge of their first victory at the Etihad Stadium since 2015.

It was the team’s joint-highest number of shots in a Premier League half ever recorded (between 2003 and 2004).

In the ninth minute, Erling Haaland gave City the lead when Savinho threaded a magnificent through ball, onto which the large Norwegian ran and tapped past David Raya.

Haaland grabbed a City scarf and waved it in the air to celebrate his 10th league goal of the year and his 100th goal for the team overall.
The happiness was fleeting in the 22nd minute, Ricardo Calafiori scored his first goal for Arsenal, a screamer from almost 20 meters away, cancelling out Haaland’s strike

.Guardiola was left furiously karate-kicking his chair after Arsenal’s free kick caught City off guard.

Subsequently, during injury time in the first half, Gabriel gave the visitors the lead by diving in to head home Bukayo Saka’s corner.

Just before halftime, Trossard was issued a second yellow and sent off for kicking the ball away, delaying the resumption, leaving Arsenal with just 10 men.

Three weeks prior, Declan Rice of Arsenal was sent off for the same offence, and it cost them dearly as they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw with Brighton—their first defeat of the season.

After the break, the Gunners were confined to their own half, which gave City the opportunity to constantly bombard them with shots. It worked until the 98th minute.

They prevented several close calls, such as Haaland’s soaring header that goalie Raya cleared. Although he was there to grab the rebound, Bernardo Silva missed the mark.

Just before the final siren, Raya produced a fantastic save by diving to save a fantastic effort from Josko Gvardiol.

Midway through the first half, City’s loss of Rodri due to injury was a major setback for the evening.

After receiving treatment, Rodri hobbled off the field in the twenty-first minute, seemingly spraining his right knee.

Captain Kevin De Bruyne was already absent from the game due to injury.
