Women Football Banyana Banyana to face Denmark, England in away international friendly matches

African champions Banyana Banyana will play against Denmark in an away international friendly match on Friday, 25 October 2024.

The match will be played at Aalborg stadium and kickoff is at 6pm. The announcement comes just days after the South African Football Association (SAFA) confirmed that coach Dr Desiree Ellis’ charges will face Jamaica in two away friendly internationals to be played on 29 November 2024 and 2 December 2024 in the tropical maritime island.

The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana will also face FIFA Women’s World Cup finalists England in an away international friendly match in October.

They will meet the Lionesses at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Tuesday, 29 October 2024 in a match that will be part of the African champions’ preparations for next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Dr Ellis said she was excited to play against such diverse opposition, each with different attributes and approaches to the game.“I would like to say thank you to SAFA and Sasol for these matches because they will test us in different ways. This is exactly the kind of preparation we need ahead of WAFCON next year,” Dr Ellis said.

SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan: “We will continue to look for top international opposition for Banyana Banyana as they prepare for the defense of their continental title. These matches are an important part of the preparation in the buildup to next year’s WAFCON.”
