Dstv Premiership Mamelodi Sundowns maintain unbeaten start with Marumo Gallants thrashing

Mamelodi Sundowns made it two wins from two in the Betway Premiership this season after a dominant 4-1 home victory over Marumo Gallants on Tuesday.

The reigning champions showcased their prowess, with goals from Tashreeq Matthews, Iqraam Rayners, Lucas Ribeiro, and Sphelele Mkhulise leaving Gallants struggling to keep pace.

Gallants began the match with some promise, moving the ball around effectively in the opening minutes. Siyabulela Shai even forced the first shot on goal for the visitors. However, it was Sundowns who struck first just two minutes later.

After a quick build-up from goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, Matthews found the net with a left-footed shot after a well-placed pass into the box.

Sundowns nearly doubled their lead in the 20th minute when Aubrey Modiba set up Marcelo Allende, whose effort sailed over the crossbar.

But it didn’t take long for them to extend their advantage. Just after the half-hour mark, Rayners joined Matthews on the scoresheet.

As Gallants pressed forward, Sundowns countered brilliantly, with Ribeiro, Matthews, and Rayners combining for a seamless second goal.
