African players abroad Oshoala’s first half penalty enough to hand Bay FC win against Seattle Reign

Super Falcons captain Asisat Oshoala’s first-half penalty kick goal was enough for Bay FC to secure a 1-0 victory over Seattle Reign at Lumen Field on Sunday.

The win improved Bay FC’s record to 9-1-12, while the Reign fell to 5-5-12. Bay FC continued its strong play on the road, having lost only once in its past six games.

Oshoala converted from the spot in the 27th minute after drawing a foul in the box by Phoebe McClernon. Her right-footed shot found the bottom left corner, leaving goalkeeper Claudia Dickey with no chance.

Seattle had several opportunities but failed to capitalize. Tziarra King, Ji So-Yun and Ana-Maria Crnogorevic were active throughout, each registering multiple shots.

Dickey made five saves for Seattle and Bay FC’s Katelyn Rowland recorded three crucial stops.

Up next: Seattle Reign will host Angel City FC on Friday. Bay FC will travel to NJ/NY Gotham on Saturday.
