FIFA wants to launch a third transfer window!

In the midst of preparations for the Club World Cup, FIFA wants to revolutionize the transfer market, in order to make life easier for the 32 teams involved in this competition.

Since the beginning of this 2024-25 season, several players have spoken out to denounce the infernal pace imposed on footballers. A players’ strike was also mentioned during the month of September. But we are not there yet. Footballers will continue to play matches in the league, in the national cup and in Europe, for those who are concerned.

Marca reveals that FIFA plans to set up a third transfer window, in addition to the winter transfer window (January 1, 2025 and will end on Monday, February 3, 2025) and the summer transfer window, which generally begins in mid-June and ends at the end of August. The third market would take place over a reduced period, between June 1 and 10, 2025.

The aim is for the clubs participating in the competition to be able to strengthen themselves before the start of the tournament. On the other hand, FIFA also wants players at the end of their contracts to be able to extend their contracts a little longer than planned. Indeed, their contracts would end on 30 June, right in the middle of the Club World Cup. FIFA therefore wants to protect them, as well as the clubs. It had already authorized this type of thing during the pandemic. It remains to be seen whether the players and teams concerned will be enthusiastic about this new initiative.
