CAF Champions League CAFCL Draws: Al Ahly To Face Orlando Pirates In Group C

The reigning champions, Al Ahly, have been drawn into a challenging Group C in the group stages of the 2024–25 CAF Champions League.

There are three teams they must contend with: Stade d’Abidjan of the Ivory Coast, CR Belouizdad from Algeria, and South Africa’s Orlando Pirates.

This group is expected to be fiercely contested, as record 12-time winners Ahly from Egypt hasn’t always shown its best form in the pool stages, despite winning the trophy in four of the previous five editions.

The top two teams in each pool advance to the quarterfinals, and Group B also appears to be close, with Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa taking on the cunning Moroccan teams Raja Casablanca and AS FAR.

The fourth team in the pool is the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Maniema Union.

Group A is headed by their fellow countrymen Tout Puissant Mazembe, five-time African champions, as well as Young Africans from Tanzania, Al Hilal from Sudan, and MC Alger from Algeria.

Esperance of Tunisia, the beaten finalist from the previous year, will look to move from Group D, where they will play Djoliba AC of Mali, Pyramids FC of Egypt, and Sagrada Esperanca of Angola.

The last round of matches is scheduled for January 17–18. The group stage begins the weekend of November 26–27.
