Nigeria’s Flamingos secured a perfect start to their 2024 FIFA U-17 World Cup Group A campaign on Wednesday, winning 4-1 thanks to goals from Shakirat Moshood, Khadijat Adegoke, Faridat Abdulawahab, and Taiwo Afolabi.
Hannah Saxon scored for New Zealand. Moshood opened the score in the 2nd minute after receiving a pass, beating her marker inside the box, and smashing a low left foot strike into the bottom corner.

Abdulwahab scored a beautiful curling shot from outside the box to put the Flamingos ahead 3-0.

Afolabi, the Flamingos’ captain, then scored the fourth goal with a lovely header after a cross.
Hannah Saxon controlled a swung-in corner kick and beat the Flamingos keeper with her left foot to give New Zealand a goal back.
On Saturday, October 19, the Flamingos will return to play against Ecuador, who are making their debut.
Later on Wednesday, Ecuador will play the host Dominican Republic.
