Chelsea Maresca Anticipates Meeting Ex-Teammate, Van Nistelrooy

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca revealed on Friday that he is looking forward to seeing his old teammate Ruud van Nistelrooy again this weekend against Manchester United.

Van Nistelrooy is now serving as interim manager of the Old Trafford team until Ruben Amorim takes over later this month.

On Sunday, Chelsea travels to United, where they haven’t won in the Premier League since May 2013.

When Maresca was at Malaga in the 2011–2012 season, close to the end of the Dutchman’s career, he played alongside striker Van Nistelrooy.

After United defeated Leicester City 5-2 at home in the League Cup midweek, this will be Van Nistelrooy’s second game as interim manager.

On November 11, Portuguese Amorim will join United.

“I will give Van Nistelrooy a big hug before the game,” Maresca told reporters.

“We expect a tough game. He’s a fantastic guy, humble, and very professional.

“We had a very good group of human beings at that time at Malaga.

” It’s nice to remember those moments.”

Chelsea was crushed 4-1 in May of last year and fell 2-1 at Old Trafford in December.

They have lost five of their last eleven league visits, drawn six, and are winless.

Hopefully, it’s a good time to play them. It’s a really tough place to win and our recent record shows that,” added Maresca.

With four victories in their past six games, Chelsea is currently in fifth place with 17 points, six points behind leaders Manchester City.

while United, with three victories from nine games, linger in 14th place on 11.

Aside from on-loan attacker Jadon Sancho, who has been sick but is still unable to play against his parent club United, Maresca has a fully healthy roster to pick from.

In addition, the Italian praised Chelsea’s star Cole Palmer, who has seven goals and five assists in 11 games in all competitions.

However, he stated that he will not put too much pressure on the 22-year-old midfielder.

“As I said at the start of the season, if we expect 20 goals and 20 assists from him again then that’s wrong.

We shouldn’t put that pressure on him,” Maresca added.

“He needs to enjoy his football and when he does that you can see what he can do.

“Cole plays well even when he doesn’t score because he allows the rest (of the team) to play in the right way.

” He’s a very important player for us.”
