Nigerian Players abroad Boniface, Tella In Action As Leverkusen Share Spoils Against Stuttgart

Nathan Tella and Victor Boniface played for Bayer Leverkusen, who were held to a 0-0 draw by visiting Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Friday.

The winners In Friday’s Bundesliga matchup with visiting VfB Stuttgart, Bayer Leverkusen failed to score despite hitting the woodwork twice and missing numerous opportunities.

Leverkusen, currently in third place with 16 points, has only won one of their past five league games going into Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Liverpool.

With Xabi Alonso’s squad leading from the beginning, Stuttgart had a lopsided first half in which the home team wasted almost half a dozen excellent scoring opportunities and Edmond Tapsoba’s header struck the crossbar.

Alexander Nuebel, the Stuttgart goalkeeper, was in outstanding form and kept the team in the game by preventing goals from Alejandro Grimaldo and Jeremie Frimpong in the first half.

Leverkusen continued where they had left off, and eight minutes after the restart, Victor Boniface struck the post with a strong attempt.

Then, in order to ensure Stuttgart won, Nuebel had to step in once again.

He first stopped Nigerian international Boniface in a one-on-one in the 73rd and then stopped a Florian Wirtz attempt a short while after.

Stuttgart, the runners-up from the previous season, now sits in seventh place with 13 points.
