Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi says his team will never lose like they did against Mamelodi Sundowns and apologized to the fans after the 4-0 Carling Cup defeat on Saturday.
“I want to apologise to all the fans. Nothing worked for us today. I want to congratulate my colleague. I’m really sorry for this outing,” said Nabi after the game.
The one-sided match at FNB Stadium saw Sundowns establish early control, further intensified after Chiefs were reduced to ten men.
Iqraam Rayners opened the scoring with a penalty after Lucas Ribeiro Costa was fouled, and shortly afterwards, added a second, giving Sundowns a comfortable lead.
Peter Shalulile further extended their advantage before half-time, making it 3-0. Just after the hour mark, Khuliso Mudau sealed the victory with a fourth goal.
Chiefs’ troubles deepened in the second half as their captain, Inacio Miguel, received a second yellow card and was sent off, leaving his side with an even steeper uphill battle.
They also suffered an injury blow as Njabulo Blom had to be stretchered off and replaced by Nkosingphile Ngcobo.
The intense atmosphere spilled into the crowd, with three pitch invasions and a Kaizer Chiefs fan attempting to confront Sundowns player Fiacre Ntwari.
