FIFA unveils the rules of its Club World Cup

This time, the Club World Cup is becoming more and more concrete despite its still uncertain funding. FIFA announced on Tuesday the rules specific to this new competition which is to take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025 in the United States.

Participating clubs will have to submit a final list of a minimum of 26 players and a maximum of 35 with at least 3 goalkeepers. Moreover, for the latter, in the event of injury or long-term withdrawal, they will not be able to be replaced in the final list. Also, coaches will be allowed to register a maximum of 26 players per match sheet (11 starters and 15 substitutes).

It is not only the pitch that will undergo some changes. As expected, the transfer window will also be impacted by this new competition. FIFA has planned a 3rd transfer window scheduled between June 1 and 10. No player will be able to play for two different teams during the World Cup, however clubs can modify their list according to the transfer window.

They will have the possibility to replace players whose contract expired during the competition and to add a maximum of 2 new elements to the final list (beyond the 35 players therefore).
