African players abroad Karim Konaté’s Brace Leads Salzburg to 3-1 Victory Over Feyenoord

Karim Konaté stole the spotlight, leading RB Salzburg to a 3-1 victory over Feyenoord. Playing away from home, Salzburg needed a solid performance to keep their Champions League hopes alive, and Konaté delivered exactly that.

The first half saw both teams trading chances, but Salzburg found it hard to break down a resilient Feyenoord defense. Just when it seemed the half would end goalless, Konaté struck in added time, scoring in the 45+2 minute. His goal, perfectly timed, put Salzburg in control and silenced the Dutch crowd as they went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

The second half resumed with Salzburg pushing for more, and Konaté wasted no time in making his mark again. In the 58th minute, he doubled Salzburg’s lead with a composed finish, securing his brace and putting his team firmly in command at 2-0.

Feyenoord, however, wasn’t ready to back down. With less than 10 minutes left, Algerian striker Hadj Mousa clawed one back in the 81st minute, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and sparking hope of a comeback for the home side.

But Salzburg was quick to respond. Determined to restore the two-goal cushion, Malian midfielder Guindo scored in the 86th minute, slotting home a crucial goal that sealed the game at 3-1. This late goal took the pressure off Salzburg and ensured they could celebrate a hard-fought victory.

Despite the win, Salzburg remains in the elimination zone under the new Champions League format, meaning they still have work to do in the remaining group matches to secure a spot in the knockout stages.
