CAF Women's Champions League CAFWCL: Edo Queens Thrash Fellow Debutants To Top Group B

Edo Queens defeated Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC, another newcomer, 3-0 on Sunday night in the CAF Women’s Champions League at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca thanks to a strong performance.

Emem Essien, Folashade Ljamilusi, and Chukwuamaka Osigwe all scored incredible goals to give the WAFU B champions a CAF Women’s Champions League debut victory over the Ethiopian team.

The young Edo Queens didn’t take long to establish themselves, pushing numbers and making the CBE defence make mistakes.

They were rewarded for their efforts as early as the fifth minute, when a well-taken cross from the quick-footed Ijamilusi’s incredible run ended with a calmly placed Essien bringing it down to put her team ahead.

CBE attempted to re-enter the game, but Edo Queens’ intense pushing prevented them from doing so.

She and Esther Moses played well together in the box, and in the 54th minute, Ijamilusi sent the ball into the roof of the net to double the Nigerians’ lead as they returned from the break.

Edo Queens maintained their lion’s share of possession and had the game under control, with CBE barely posing a threat to their defenders.

In the 80th minute, 17-year-old substitute Chukwuamaka Osigwe controlled a ball from Moses and unleashed a left-footed drive that left the keeper with no chance, thus putting the Ethiopians out of the game.

After defeating defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies 1-0 earlier in the day, Queens now lead Group B, with FC Masar trailing them.
