Barcelona overcame an early goal deficit to defeat Real Madrid 5-2 in Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup final.
They scored four goals in a strong first half and managed to avoid having their goalie sent off to win a record-tying 15th championship.
After five minutes, French striker Kylian Mbappe put Real ahead with a shot inside the far post to cap off a solo move.
However, Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal tied the score in the 22nd minute before Robert Lewandowski handed them the lead from the penalty spot.
Long into first-half stoppage time, left back Alejandro Balde gave Barca a fourth goal, and Raphinha extended the lead with a spectacular header from a cross by Jules Kounde in the 39th minute.
Raphinha put Barcelona ahead 5-1 shortly after halftime, but goalie Wojciech Szczesny’s dismissal for fouling Mbappe in the 56th minute left Barca with 10 men.
Rodrygo scored from the ensuing free kick, beating substitute goalkeeper Inaki Pena, but 10-man Barcelona easily won.
