African players abroad Kamaldeen Sulemana Shines as Southampton Defeat Swansea

Southampton coach Ivan Jurić heaped praise on Kamaldeen Sulemana after the Ghanaian winger delivered a standout performance in the Saints’ victory over Swansea. Sulemana not only scored a goal but also provided a crucial assist, earning him the Player of the Match award and reaffirming his importance to the team.

Jurić, who has been closely monitoring Sulemana’s progress, was candid about the player’s journey back to form. “Sulemana has worked hard in the last 20 days; he wasn’t in very good shape,” the Southampton manager admitted. “Now it’s the first game that I’m satisfied with him—assist and goal. He’s a young player; he needs confidence, but he can give us a hand.”

Sulemana’s recent struggles, both in fitness and form, had raised concerns, but Jurić expressed his faith in the winger’s potential. “I knew him before. I know everything about Sulemana when he played in France and the problems he has had here. I think he’s a good player,” Jurić said, highlighting his prior knowledge of the player from his time at Rennes in Ligue 1.

Jurić also underscored the importance of keeping key players like Sulemana at the club, especially during a critical phase in Southampton’s campaign. “Now, in this moment, the good players have to stay in Southampton,” he asserted, signaling the club’s intention to build a competitive squad around talents like the 21-year-old Ghanaian.

With Sulemana now finding his rhythm, Southampton fans will hope this marks the start of a more consistent run of form for the dynamic winger.
